Edit
I went to Kew Gardens yesterday to sentiment their novel Artful Autumn exhibitions inward the gardens. I hadn't quite bargained on getting Apocalypse Now thrown inward for free!
The atmospheric condition was forecast to last warm together with sunny together with a corking twenty-four hours to see the gardens to run across the sculpture together with installations.
However, we've lost confidence inward the BBC Weather forecasts e'er since the Met. Office lost the contract to render the atmospheric condition forecasts. We forthwith detect ourselves quite often photographing the BBC atmospheric condition app showing i affair for a specific place together with the atmospheric condition doing something completely different.
Yesterday was a instance inward betoken equally the orangish Sun together with the huge dust cloud descended on Kew equally nosotros walked unopen to the gardens! I must confess nosotros spent an awful lot of fourth dimension simply staring at the heaven equally it got darker together with darker!
Below are some views of the diverse installations
Kew Gardens is a bright place for a sculpture exhibition - if together with when they are presented well.
For me the absolute minimum is providing either an online withdraw or a leaflet for what you're seeing. Plus a proficient together with uninterrupted sentiment of the sculpture inward its setting.
Instead, all also often at Kew this Autumn, what I've institute is:
For me in that place are two rules nigh sculpture inward a landscape
I was also unimpressed alongside its handling on the website:
My personal preference is for the sculpture related to botanical subjects - which I wrote nigh in Nuts together with seeds - within together with out at Kew at the destination of September.
I loved the bronzes yesteryear Anne Curry of the unlike forms that nuts together with seeds accept - thus much to a greater extent than organic together with relevant to a botanic garden!
I THINK the sculpture exhibition has forthwith ended (on xv October) although the sculpture tin all the same last seen unopen to the garden. Personally I don't quite run across the betoken of going to all the problem of having a sculpture exhibition for less than a month.
Sculpture inward the garden inward wintertime is corking - together with to my hear I'd similar to run across a lot to a greater extent than of it - robust together with ready for earth together with the atmospheric condition - all over the tumble together with wintertime months.
The remaining artworks inward the gardens comprise xvi site-specific artworks yesteryear 4 artists which are on display until 29th October.
The Treelings yesteryear Woody Fox Willow are simply patently weird - but I tin run across how they last corking fun for children. Some small-scale people rushed over to them together with hugged them equally nosotros passed yesteryear yesterday. In fact, in that place was some serious twig hugging taking house simply to the correct of this photograph involving rattling small-scale children!
You tin read to a greater extent than nigh them inward this weblog postal service Nigel Ross struck me equally objects that could accept upwardly permanent residence inward the gardens - fulfilling both a practical involve together with interesting choice to the existing benches.
His sculptural benches together with furniture, bridges etc are currently situated inward woodlands, parks, gardens, schools, hospitals, gardens, together with novel developments across Britain, Europe together with USA.
Maybe Kew Gardens should commencement offering people the chance to sponsor a spot sculpture rather than a bench?

- a sculpture exhibition which has theoretically finished (but is all the same there) and
- four installations yesteryear 4 unlike artists inward Cedar Vista.
My favourite wood spot sculpture |
I'll behave on the Life inward Death exhibition by Rebecca Louise Law after this week. Apparently it was rattling busy terminal weekend!
Sculpture
Kew Gardens is a bright place for a sculpture exhibition - if together with when they are presented well.
Two figures nigh the Palm House |
Instead, all also often at Kew this Autumn, what I've institute is:
- a rattling unhelpful barrier unopen to the sculpture which completely spoils the final result of the sculpture; and/or
- placing an erect large statement nigh what it is rattling unopen to the sculpture
How much nicer this sculpture would expect without THAT NOTICE WHICH IS SO UNHELPFUL TO THE ART! |
Absolutely LUDICROUS barriers unopen to the sculpture completely negating the final result the sculptor intended |
- absolutely no barriers - if it's non robust plenty to last exterior or touched thus it shouldn't last exterior at all!
- labels on a small-scale apartment tablet on the ground - inward front end of the sculpture - non sticking upwardly together with getting inward the way. Or simply a small-scale bring out nigh the base of operations - which correlates to numbers on a leaflet or an online listing which tin last accessed within the garden (which is hard equally the broadband reception oftentimes borders on 'inaccessible').
I was also unimpressed alongside its handling on the website:
- no reference to the exhibition
- no listing of the sculptures piece they are/were installed within the garden
- no press release providing whatsoever details
My personal preference is for the sculpture related to botanical subjects - which I wrote nigh in Nuts together with seeds - within together with out at Kew at the destination of September.
I loved the bronzes yesteryear Anne Curry of the unlike forms that nuts together with seeds accept - thus much to a greater extent than organic together with relevant to a botanic garden!
Physalis Seed Pod (bronze resin) yesteryear Anne Curry |

A spot alongside a twist! |
The e'er thus slightly asymmetric shape has corking appeal - together with is rattling practical too! |
More an interesting shape that a spot to sit down on! |
