Hesketh Hubbard Exhibition - Non Plenty Life Drawing!

I went to meet the Annual Exhibition by the Hesketh Hubbard Art Society on Thursday. The Society is London's largest life drawing society

The exhibition is right away finished.  This postal service highlights:

• my thoughts on the exhibition - in addition to a proposition for the future
• the prizewinners 
• work past times artists I liked
• the creative mortal who had the most visitors - due solely to positive self-promotion.  It's a learning lesson for real many artists!

I've reviewed the exhibition in i lawsuit before and convey to state I haven't changed my opinion.

• the calibre of artwork on display is real definitely NOT of the same calibre every bit the other fine art societies who exhibit at the Mall Galleries in addition to belong to the Federation of British Artists.  Some of it real amateurish - which is unsurprising given the means the social club is opened upward to all.
• there's far besides trivial life drawing from observation on display.  For some argue this exhibition - past times a life drawing social club - includes a diversity of artwork past times its members some of which is neither of people nor done from observation.
• the overall touchstone resembles the touchstone of exhibition past times local fine art societies which nosotros meet inwards real many libraries in addition to church building halls upward in addition to downwards the country.  While in that place are some goodness industrial plant on display, besides many neglect to impress.
• some of the prices on artworks were real inflated relative to the character of the work.

In other words it's real disappointing - specially for anybody coming whatsoever distance in addition to expecting the same character of artwork that they meet inwards the other fine art social club exhibitions at the Mall Galleries.

I know in addition to empathise that the members are a mix of professional person in addition to amateur artists but I'm afraid I'd much rather meet an exhibition inwards the Mall Galleries which displayed the best life drawing from roughly the country.

Maybe this social club and/or the FBA and/or the Mall Galleries needs to intend nearly having some other exhibition which ranks amongst that of the other FBA Societies - which has:

• a clear focus - on life drawing (clothed in addition to unclothed) from observation
• open entry
• selection for exhibition, by an proficient panel, of the best life drawing submitted from roughly the UK

Artwork I liked

I actually liked the charcoal drawing past times an inveterate drawer of the whole class when deal life drawing sessions!  I similar seeing people who endeavor to depict both the model in addition to the context.

I was surprised to meet the Louise Fox's etching - notwithstanding it does comprise a figure in addition to etching is real much a medium which relies of drawing. I actually liked this image.

Finally I real much liked a uncomplicated drawing by Geoff Holmes who is plainly somebody skilled inwards observation of the human body.

It would travel peachy to meet to a greater extent than first-class life drawing........

An addendum

One of the interesting aspects of this exhibition related to the real positive touching of self-promotion.

I was told past times Natalie, who looks after reception, that real many Ukrainians had come upward to meet the exhibit - in addition to wanted to meet the ikon of but i artist.

This is because the creative mortal - Olga Brown - had her artwork (Ukrainian Blue) on the front end of a magazine nearly Ukrainian life for for Ukrainians living inwards London. This also included a preview of the exhibition in addition to a profile for the artist.

It but goes to exhibit that those artists who convey the drive in addition to are sufficiently motivated to promote themselves in addition to their art, inwards publications relevant to the community they belong to and/or where they live, are much to a greater extent than probable to generate involvement inwards their fine art both inwards terms of the exhibition it appears inwards in addition to afterward inwards terms of sales in addition to commissions.

Would that to a greater extent than artists did this for the usual create goodness of all exhibitors!
